The Ehlers-Danlos syndromes (EDS) are a group of 13 heritable connective tissue disorders. The conditions are caused by genetic changes that affect connective tissue. Each type of EDS has its own set of features with distinct diagnostic criteria. The most common type is hypermobile EDS (hEDS). It is thought to affect 1 in 3,100 – 5000 people and is characterized by generalized joint hypermobility, joint instability, and chronic pain. Support Our Stripes is an organization that was formed to help build awareness about Ehlers-Danlos syndromes and to provide support to those living with the condition. Our three main activities are: 1) To host virtual and in-person events, 2) Sponsor people to receive proper evaluation, and 3) Help those with a diagnosis to access pilates classes which can be expensive, but extremely helpful in managing symptoms and improving quality of life for those with EDS.
